  3. I remember being in 8th grade and picking up The Diary of Anne Frank because it was a "diary" and I was intrigued by it. Having no idea what it was about, I was engrossed the whole time. I don't know why my school never made it a recommended reading, it should be...quite excellent!

  5. All wonderful books. I will be teaching 5th Grade SS for the first time next year. I know that might make me sound young, but not necessarily! LOL! I've spent 14 years focusing on ELA and will continue to but I will be fully integrating SS content into my workshop this year. I just ordered BOMB and have read many of the others on your list. Professionally speaking I can't imagine teaching without having read The Book Whisperer and I am a fan of Book Love as well! GREAT POST! I'm your newest follower.
