Favorite Graduation Picture Books

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

It is graduation season!  We just got home from a graduation party given for  our neighbor's daughter who is heading off to college in the fall.  It is a bittersweet and exciting time for parents and families.  If you're looking for graduation picture books (besides the beloved and popular Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Suess), here are some of my favorites (some of these are also great for teaching extended metaphor to your students):

Walk On!: A Guide for Babies of All Ages

Stars
Stars by Mary Lyn Ray, illustrated by Marla Frazee

Instructions

Of Thee I Sing: A Letter To My Daughters

Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters by Barack Obama, illustrated by Loren Long

I Can Be Anything!

Only One You  You Be You

Only One You and You Be You by Linda Kranz

Do you have some favorite
graduation books you'd like to
share?  I'd love to hear about them!

  1. And Oh, the Places You Will Go. :) I know it sounds elementary, but I tear up every time I read it to my fifth graders before they leave for middle school. ;)

    1. Yes, definitely! I mention that title in the intro - I just tried to pick some that were not quite as well known as Oh, the Places You Will Go. :-)

  2. Just looking at the covers of these books puts a lump in my throat. You get through graduation with your children, and then you have the bittersweetness all over again with grandchildren! Ahhh, the river of life -- its only constant is change and growth. And that's good! :-)
