Celebration Saturday

Discover. Play. Build.

I'm so happy that Ruth Ayres started a Celebrate Link-Up on her blog!!!  I will be joining the celebration every Saturday!!

I can't spend much time writing this celebration this morning because soon my house will be filled with close to 30 people!  Twenty-six years ago, my closest high school and college friends decided to start a tradition - Friends' Thanksgiving.  We were living off campus in 1988 in a drafty, army-green house at Miami University, and we thought it would be fun to cook our own turkey and celebrate with each other before going home to our families for Thanksgiving break.  We had a great time, and decided to do it every year.  Now, 26 years later, our little gathering has grown to include our spouses, children, our children's friends, and neighbors.  We cook a huge meal, drink wine, laugh, and end the day in a fierce competition of charades.  The celebration lasts all weekend since my college roommate comes from State College, PA on Friday night and stays until Monday morning.  Our oldest daughter brings about 15 of her Miami friends who have said they'd like to start the same tradition someday as they've been inspired by our long-lasting friendship.  Time to start preparing homemade dressing and prepare for a day of making memories!  I'll probably write more about the weekend on Tuesday's Slice of Life.  Here are some pictures of past celebrations:
