It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

These are memes started by Teach Mentor Texts and Book Journey, and I'm excited to participate, along with many other bloggers, in reviewing books I read the previous week. I'll be reviewing picture books through adult books.

MIDDLE GRADE/YOUNG ADULT

The Shadow Throne (The Ascendance Trilogy, #3)

How it all began:

What a great series - funny, action-packed, adventurous - just the perfect middle grade/YA fantasy series. I finished this one on the plane to Florida, and I never once thought about the fact that I had to go through Minneapolis instead of taking a shorter direct flight because it kept me so entertained! Jaron is such a great character. I'll miss his reckless, but brave antics, his humor, and the journey on which he and Jennifer Nielsen brought us. Satisfying ending, too! I had a student, Gabby, who finished the series before me and REALLY wanted to talk about it! I love that.  Several students are passing around the finale now.

YOUNG ADULT

The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle, #2)

I listened to this one as well as The Raven Boys, and while I LOVE the narrator of this series, I feel like I need to go back and READ both these books. Stiefvater is so witty and smart, and there are so many nuances, twists, and turns in this book, especially, that I think I missed a lot by listening to it. This one shed more light on Ronan, and the fact that he could steal things from dreams was captivating, and Kavinsky was downright evil. Then there's the Gray Man. There's not as much focus on Blue, and I missed that. I seem to have more questions than answers, and I think when the third one comes out, I'll start from the beginning and read them all straight through.  With all that being said, I'm a big Stiefvater fan.  I think she's an amazing writer for teens (and adults)!

CURRENTLY READING
I was almost done, and my library e-book loan expired. :-(  Will finish it up soon.

  1. I loved The Raven Boys but had to take The Dream Thieves back to the library so haven't been able to finish it yet. It looks like you and your family are getting some great reading done. :D

  2. Never Let Me Go was such a powerful read. I haven't read anything of Maggie Stiefvater after the Scorpio Races and I so NEEEEED to! Loving the cover for A Sea Captain's Wife - that's a perfectly valid way to choose a read, right? You can check out my week here

  4. I am getting ready to start Ever After High. One of my students did a project on it and she did such a good job that she convinced me to read it! I guess it is kind of like Monster High, which I don't really know anything about!

  5. I am currently reading The Shadow Throne to my children - we are all addicted to this series. So glad you loved Dream Thieves - now you join the rest of us waiting for the third title. I am so curious about when it will be released! Supposed to be later this year. I have zero patience!

  6. My son and I are SO looking forward to The Shadow Throne. We devoured the first two books! This series is one that we can never keep in the library - they are SO popular! Yours is the second post I have seen today about Scowler - looks like another my son and I will love! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Hi there Holly, I think I'd have to pick up The Raven Boys again. For some reason, I keep on putting it down and abandoning it. Will try to stick to it this year. Looking forward to reading the shadow throne too, we still don't have it in our libraries unfortunately. Have a great reading week!
