Nonfiction Wednesday

I'm excited that Alyson Beecher, at Kid Lit Frenzy, is continuing her Nonfiction Picture Book Challenge for the fifth year in a row.

Since Hillary Rodham Clinton was declared the winner at the Iowa caucuses, it's only fitting the nonfiction picture books I read this week are about her.

Hillary Rodgam Clinton: Some Girls Are Born to Lead by Michelle Markel, illustrated by LeUyen Pham

I enjoyed both these books about Hillary Rodham Clinton.  She is truly a ground-breaker, and I admire her intelligence and ambition.  The Krull book was originally written in 2008, but it was newly updated to include her appointment as Secretary of State and even included a paragraph about the controversies surrounding her.  I loved the illustrations in the Markel version.  Pham did extensive research to include illustrations of historical and contemporary people and events.  Regardless of your politics, these books are worth checking out.

  1. Wow, Holly, and I just checked out a third one about Hillary from the library. I need to find these so I can compare. Interesting timing, and your two sound interesting.

  3. American politics just confuses me (don't even ask me what on Earth a Iowa caucuses means..) >.< But, I'm glad to see these picture books! No matter what the outcome of the next election, Ms. Clinton is already a trail-blazing and inspiring role model for children, and I'm very glad to see her life shared in these great picture books.

  4. I didn't know what was updated in the Krull book so thanks for sharing. The Markel book definitely seemed to have the most appeal to our customers.
