Slice of Life - Ending and Beginnings

I love participating in Slice of Life, started by Two Writing Teachers and writing a story, reflection, or musing at least once a week.

This is the time of year for endings.  The school year is wrapping is up, and my daughter, Katie, is graduating from high school.  My older daughter, Libby, moved about 3 hours away into an apartment.  The good news is, with every ending, there is a beginning.  For my sixth graders, they will soon begin jr. high.  My fifth graders will begin a new year with me as 6th graders next year.  Katie will begin her life as a college student at The Ohio State University soon.  Libby starts an exciting summer internship at Smuckers today.  We attended a wedding Saturday in which the bride and groom's single life ended, but their new lives as husband and wife began.  I'm grateful that God designed our lives to be like this.  A chapter never ends without a new one beginning.

  2. The beginnings help us through the endings, for sure.

  3. Such a bittersweet time- all these endings and new beginnings. My niece, newly graduated from college, leaves today to move to Houston, one thousand miles away, to start a new job. I'm thrilled for her, but will really miss her…

  4. It seems that change is in your life this summer, Holly. I know you're so proud of your girls, yet it is a new part of life for them, and for you and your husband, too. Love the video of your class, too. Special to see all the parts of the year!

  5. Loved your post as I am feeling some of your feelings too .. my daughter graduates high school this year and will go to college in the fall. It's such a hopeful time for her .. a bit melancholy for me. We are both entering new phases in our lives.

  6. Such a positive lense to see life through, not endings but beginnings. How emotional you must be looking at your daughter about to graduate! Congrats to both of them!

  7. A continuous cycle of endings and beginnings. Love the animoto video of your school year. Great song choice! Katie has the same big smile. I'm so glad I don't hear you lamenting empty nest, even though I know you must be feeling a little tug. Hard not to, even when we know our daughters are doing what they are meant to do.
