It's road trip season, so you need something to listen to in the car! One of the ways I've increased the number of books I read is by listening to audio books. I know some of you might not agree that listening to books is the same as reading, and you would be right. However, I love stories, and I love to be read to, so I count them in my number of books read every year. Also, because I'm a teacher who wants to know about as many books as I can in order to recommend them to students, it's a great way to increase that knowledge. I listen to books while I'm walking my dog, gardening, driving, and cleaning. Sometimes I have two audio books going at once: one in my car and one while I do other things around the house. There are some amazing narrators out there, so sometimes it feels like you're listening to a full-blown theater production. Libraries have CDs, MP3 players, and downloads available, and
Audiobooks.com and
Audible.com provide memberships. I'm going to break these posts up into categories since I have so many I love. Here are my favorite middle grade audio books:

Happy Listening!!
Though it's as you say that listening to audio books is different from actually reading them, I think this practice can also help nurture the listeners' imagination. And that's what's good about reading books in general. With the scenarios described by the author, the readers are taken into a different world while conveying facts and information. I hope you continue encouraging young minds about books and reading.
