Nonfiction Wednesday and Top Posts of the Year

Thanks to Kid Lit Frenzy, I made a goal to read more children's nonfiction this year which I will be featuring on my blog every Wednesday.

Alyson is working on a 2014 Nonfiction image and post as I write this!  I thought I'd do one last 2013 post  since I finished this book in 2013 and start with 2014 next week.  I've loved participating in this meme because it definitely increased my nonfiction reading (I read 66 picture books/middle grade/young adult nonfiction books), which was a 2012 reading gap for me.  Thanks, Alyson!  Last week, I read:

Seymour Simon's Extreme Oceans

2013-book, animals, intermediate-kids-book, nature, nonfiction, nonfiction-challenge-2013, oceans

Oceans fascinate me but also creep me out a bit, and this book just added to its mystery, danger, and beauty. Simon teaches us a lot about sea creatures, storms, and climate changes while enhancing the text with amazing photographs. My students will enjoy this book!

MY TOP BLOG POSTS OF THE YEAR

I thought it would be fun to review my blogging year and see what was popular.  A couple other bloggers did this and inspired me to do the same.  Before I do, check out these bloggers' 2013 reflections:

(This is no doubt popular because readers of The Book Whisperer Google "40 Book Challenge," so I don't take credit for this one - it's all Donalyn Miller!!)

There they are - the top ten of 212 posts in 2013!!  I'm looking forward to what 2014 brings!

  1. Holly - we share the same number - I read 66 nonfiction picture books (and just a few other longer titles) this year as well! So happy you will be participating in #nfpb2014 again! Happy 2014!
