Celebration Saturday

Discover. Play. Build.
I'm so happy that Ruth Ayres started a Celebrate Link-Up on her blog!!!  I will be joining the celebration every Saturday!!

Things I'm celebrating this week:

1.  Last weekend, Libby and her roommates planned a weekend for their mothers at Miami University.  I was not able to participate in all of the festivities, but I loved joining them all for dinner Saturday night.  I've blogged about Libby's college friends before, so you know how highly I think of them.  They have pretty amazing moms, too!

2.  On Tuesday, I woke anticipating a very exciting day!  I had been invited to a Teacher Appreciation Performance and Banquet by a 6th grade student of mine, who is a Kings Firecracker.  Now, you may not know what/who the Kings Firecrackers are, so trust me - they are AMAZING!  They've been invited to perform at the Chicago Bulls, University of Kentucky, University of Virginia, Northwestern University games and countless other major events.  When you watch them do their thing, you can't help but tear up.  They're THAT good!  And no wonder - they practice for 3-4 hours five to six days a week.  The squad is made up of 3rd-8th grade girls.  I was so honored to be chosen to attend this special tribute to teachers!  Danielle wrote me a beautiful letter.  All you teachers out there know what those kind of letters mean to us.  It keeps us going and validates why we do what we do.

3.  My day on Tuesday was not over.  Right after the banquet, I drove downtown to meet my friend, Jill, both my daughters, and a group of Kings teachers to have dinner before the BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN concert.  Unfortunately, my husband was out of town for business, so he couldn't join us.  He's actually the reason I'm as big a Bruce fan as I am, so I hate it when he can't go to a concert.  However, that wasn't going to stop us from going. ;-)   It was a fabulous concert.  I've seen him a number of times, and he seems to defy age.  Our only disappointment is that he didn't sing Thunder Road.  Libby has known the words of that song since she was four, and has seen Springsteen live three times, and he has yet to sing it.  We're going to keep going until he does!

4.  Speaking of Libby, she is in the midst of writing a young adult science fiction/fantasy novel.  It's fun to hear her enthusiasm as she comes up with new ideas and to read her drafts as she crafts her story.  I gave the first 20 pages to one of my sixth grade readers yesterday.  I love how excited she was to read it and give feedback.  I'm looking forward to hearing what she says.  I told Libby her story is now being field-tested.  She was thrilled.

5.  We're celebrating Katie for her direct admission to The Ohio State Fisher Business School for fall.  You know that she was accepted into the college in December, but this is great news that she can begin her Marketing degree her freshman year.  We're proud that her high school accomplishments have paved the way for advantages in her college career.

Now off to read all YOUR celebrations!

It is so nice that Libby has such wonderful friends and that she is writing. It must be amazing to read her work and watch her process.
