It's Day 5 of the March Slice of Life Story Challenge, and I'm writing a goodbye letter to our house in a series of memories since we will be moving in April.
What was the first social event in our house right after we moved in? A book club meeting, of course! We met in January - that's our breakfast room where the kids are having a picnic. Our furniture was still in our house in Pittsburgh since we hadn't sold that one yet. We rented furniture, just the essentials, for the Lebanon house.
The only other house in the culdesac at the time was the Glassmeyer's. I remember Ellen ringing the doorbell when we moved in and bringing us a plate of cookies. That was such a nice gesture. It wasn't long until we had a few more neighbors around us; I'll be writing more about our culdesac - it's full of great people and fun times!
The first couple months were a little traumatic because we had to get a lot of the drywall redone. Workmen were in the house until late at night and plastic sheeting was everywhere. Ed was gone a lot since he was still traveling back to Pittsburgh for work, so it was a little crazy. I remember the girls and I eating a lot of meals at my friend, Karan's, house! We were finally in our house, though, and it started becoming a home.
Lebanon, PA? It's your neighborhood and friends that sound like they made your house a home. Hoping you find that in your new place.

ReplyDeleteI always love gatherings in my kitchen, Holly. No matter how many rooms are open and decorated for friends when they come over, the ladies love to gravitate to the kitchen. I guess it has such a homey feel to it. I love hearing your house stories.
ReplyDeleteWe have lived in three houses; and I have become attached to each! I really love the idea of writing a good-bye letter to those places that shape our families. Best wishes for a wonderful transition to the new place!
